Scotland's Red Door...
In Scotland there are several things that they do different than we do in America but there is one interesting thing that links to Real Estate and it is the painted, "Red Door". It is said that in Scotland the family will paint the door of their home when the mortgage on the house is paid in full. This is interesting because as far as anyone has discovered, they are the only people that have that specific meaning to having the door painted in red. I have also heard that some people in America are starting to take on the trend simply because it let's people know that the family is living a debt-free life and they are "Shouting it from a roof-top". Like I said this is very interesting and there are many more cultures that interpret the "Red Door" differently. However, it would be a great accomplishment to get that mortgage paid and have a unique way of letting people know about it.

Wow, that's really interesting and different. If that were to catch on in America, we wouldn't have very many red doors!
ReplyDeleteFamilies showing off about being debt-free first seemed kind of strange. Then I thought about it and couldn't think of many things more brag-worthy. Interesting post.
ReplyDeleteI've had a red door (and plenty of debt) for several years. Mostly because I love the color red. We are on the pathway to being debt-free though, so maybe we will hold off on the red door for our next house until it's paid for.
